Post-election: Legislative Elections in Argentina
On October 26, Argentina held its midterm legislative elections, with a voter turnout of 67.9%, the lowest since the return to democracy. In this context, the ruling party managed to consolidate a significant presence in Congress, securing 64 seats in the Chamber of Deputies and 19 in the Senate.
With the results in its favor, La Libertad Avanza will seek to advance labor, pension, and tax reform bills, as well as the 2026 Budget Law, the appointment of Supreme Court justices, and the filling of key institutional vacancies, such as the Ombudsman.
The new Congress will take office on December 10, in a more polarized political environment where negotiations with governors and provincial blocs will be crucial to advancing the government’s legislative agenda.
